Bella for Vampire? BD Theories 3-26

Why should Bella become a vampire? Do you want her to? And when will it happen in the book? Then there is the all important question of how she will be turned. Lets hear your theories.

Here are the poll results:

The givens were: Edward cannot become human and Bella and Edward will get married. Do we still want Bella to become a vampire?

21 people voted that they want Bella to become a vampire. Only 1 voted that they don't want her to. Will we ever know who cast that vote?

As to whether or not Stephenie will have her become a vampire, 19 people think it will happen and 2 don't think so.

Any more thoughts voters?

Do I want Bella to become a vampire? Uhh, come on! That's like asking if I like chocolate, or my family or something.
I dare anyone to think differently. Just kidding, I'm really not a threatening person, just trying to make a point.
Of course I hope and wish that Bella will become a vampire and be able to join Edward. They deserve to have an eternity together, to share their extraordinary and amazing love they have for each other. It should last longer than one short lifetime. And Edward has waited so long...
That's all I'll say for now.

I'm going to comment later when I have more time but, yes, of course she should become a vampire. And I hope it's toward the beginning of BD, but she might be super blood-thirty and crazy for the majority of the book. So that wouldn't be great either. I'm not sure. The wedding better be darn near the VERY beginning because, come on, haven't we waited long enough???

betchafeelbetter said...

Pretty much my opinion is that Bella & Edward need to be together & if that means Bella becomes a vampire, then go for it!

As Jill also mentioned, I am excited for B&E to finally get married. But, they could get married and still not immediately turn Bella vampire due to complications, which is basically what I think will happen - complications, lots of them. Werewolves, the Volturi, maybe Charlie/Renee who knows.

So I'm guessing that the wedding will be somewhere in the middle, and be the catalyst to the complications. We'll have some wedding prep & small issues at the beginning of the book, wedding, complications, fighting, whatever, and then finally some resolution & Bella being turned near the end of the book. And I do think that Edward will be the one to do it. (Do you know how hard that will be for him to intentionally cause Bella pain?)

I agree 100% with BFB's theories. I'm counting on more action with the Volturi and werewolves. And of course the complications will get in the way of the wedding and/or "change," I can't really picture SM finishing off with a simple fairytale ending. And yes, I think it will be Edward that bites her. . .

Hi everyone. It is so fun to come back and get caught up on all that has been missed. I agree with all that has been said. as much as I want it to be pure blissful, it has not been SM way for things to go smoothly. There will be conflict- I just hope Bella and Edward are together and stronger together after all is said and done.

lioness said...

Very nice short, sweet, and concise theories girls. But for me this is the most significant event that will happen in the entire series. I just keep waiting for time to share, and no time like the insanely houred present.

First I agree with everyone. I do have a slightly different opinion on the timing of the wedding but I will save that for a new post.

And I'm not sure how coherent this my thoughts will be here. I think I say the same thing over and over agian. Bear with me.
Stephenie says herself that she finds it interesting that most mature readers realize Bella is not ready to become a vampire at the end of Twilight. I think most of us feel that way. But I already wanted her too. Why?
Because of Edward. Now I know I can be a little over the top about Edward, but the fact of the matter is, SM created such an amazing character for me, in Edward. I was mesmorized by him immediately and then I fell completely and utterly in love with him. His character only become more endearing and more intriguing through New Moon and Eclipse.

I have said many times that I love Edward so much because he is so conflicted. And his character shows that. Ulitmate strength and vulnerability combined. Is he the Lion or the Lamb. Take your pick. He is both.

Somewhere there was an interview in the early filming of the movie as well, where Robert mentions how Stephenie helped him see how truly depressed Edward was. I thought that was an interesting description. A new added insight I don't think we have completely had revealed before. Depressed before Bella, or after meeting Bella and deciding what to do about it? His life can't end. He didn't choose the path he is on.

So Edward always thought he was complete in himself. But if we are taking a "creator" in charge view of the books, and how they relate to our lives, then we all know one of the greatest needs and blessings in this life, is to find our companion. Forever, or eternity, certainly finds its place in the Twilight world and that is no mistake. So when meeting Bella brings about this realization in Edward, how can he never find any truly lasting joy, or peace, or sense of worth without Bella with him forever, what other conclusion could be satisfying?

I don't think the books are going to get much preachier about finding meanging in life. I have said before as well, that even with each other forever, I hope Bella and Edward find a purpose in life together. A way to serve their fellow man, like Carlisle is able to.
Of course in the real world, their is peace and joy that can be attained witout a companion, with the promise of a companion in the eternities. But this is a world of vampires and in my opinion SM has set the precedence that without Bella, Edward cannot truly be happy or have meaning in his life. It's deeper than emotional need.

And if we take the decription of Edward by Carlisle, of the good, decent, wonderful person he was, and combine it with Bella's description of him as the most "loving and unselfish and brilliant and decent person" she has ever met. Then add to that his effort for 80 plus years to hold on to his humanity and deny his "natural man" for lack of a better term. Well that makes for one sypathetic character.

Bella's sacrifice of course surpasses anything Edward can offer her. I wont take the time to point out the hundreds of instances where SM has revealed Bella's special nature. I cannot doubt that we are meant to be convinced that Bella needs Edward as much as he needs her. That she can be have a great measure of happiness without him, but with him is where her destiny lies.
And in a way, Edward is deserving of her sacrifice. As much as he possibly could be.
Of course I will add my own disclaimer that I don't think it will take away Bella's soul. I don't think she should sell her soul for Edward. But give her life for him? I think she should. If the story plays out the way SM seems to have set it up, there will be pain and difficulty but in the end their togetherness has to be worth it.

I don't even like having to keep brining up what the author was trying to do, because it detracts from the fairy-tale. But it is after all a beautiful, unbelievable, but most tangibly bittersweet fairy-tale ever created. And that is why I love it. And I want the fairy tale ending with all of its imperfections but wonderfully "forever" (Edward vows, New Moon pg, 547) "That's all I'm asking for." (Bella)

That is all I am asking for in Breaking Dawn.

Trish said...

Wow, that was something else. And very intriguing and enjoyable to read. You have quite a way of expressing your feelings. Well done.
Interesting point you mentioned about Edward being depressed. And good question, before or after he met Bella, or both? Only more intensified by the situation and decision that now lie ahead of him?..
They are destined for each other, and truly do deserve an eternity full of love and happiness together.

lioness said...

Yeah, someone actually read my comment. Thanks. I loved writing it. I don't dare re-read it though because I don't want to discover if it is sloppy or goes in circles making its point. I'm glad you could understand it, but with our matching brains and all that. . .
Anyway, have a happy day.

I was given a link to this site by a friend of mine...I'm glad I'm not the only grown up obsessed with the Twilight series and Edward in particular.

On the topic of Bella becoming a vampire, I think she should and she will. I do however think that there will be mayhem and chaos caused by Jacob Black and by Bella herself before the actual wedding/changing takes place.

I don't understand why Bella is so freaked out about never seeing her friends and family again. I understand that for awhile she won't be in any condition to be around people, but the Cullens are around people everyday, and I'm sure she could be around her parents for years, before they started asking questions. But my ideas are different then Stephanie's so it will be interesting to see how this plays out in her head.

Thanks for setting up this site. I look forward to coming back again and again.

lioness said...

Amy thank you for stepping up and declaring yourself. Great insights. We will start a Wedding Theories discussion soon.

You are always welcome here. If you want posting privileges let your friend know and I will formally invite you.

It is interesting about seeing her family and friends. She didn't worry about that at all in the beginning. I think she needs to face that but she does and is still ready to make the sacrifice. I am very interested to see if Bella will get to see her family after her change. Will her looks not be that dramatic? I always figured she and Edward ought to just get it over with and stage thier deaths on their honeymoon. But it would be wonderful for Charlie and Renee to see how happy Bella and Edward are when they are married.
But how will they ever visit Renee?

betchafeelbetter said...

They will fly Jet Blue red-eye flights, of course.

JK

But they could invite her to visit them for the holidays where they live.

betchafeelbetter said...

And another theory I have is that Jacob will return when the Volturi problem arises, and then the pack will finally help out and get over the biting-ending-the-treaty grudge thing. And Jacob will imprint or fall in love sometime during the whole wedding-battle process. My picks: Angela (imprint) or Leah (non-imprint).

lioness said...

Now hold your horsies there BFB. We don't want to start a whole new theory post right here. We have got to keep them all straight.
Would you like to start the wedding post or the "what will happen to Jacob" post. I know they really do all run together. Just having fun with you.

And don't let me scare away any of our new mystery voter/recruits. The blog police don't do anything really rough to you. Right BFB?

betchafeelbetter said...

Oh stink, I just had a brain cramp for a moment. I saw BD theories and thought we had a new post besides the Bella for vampire. (Don't know why I jumped to that conclusion, seeing as how I had just read through the comments, but we'll call it a blonde moment.)

So, anyhow, I can wait until the appropriate time to share my theories; I don't need to start a new post (unless you want me to). Do you want me to delete that comment?

And to our new & mystery guests, the blog police aren't really rough. They just talk Gangsta Span-O to you, and make you re-verify your allegiance to the Twilight-o sistas.

lioness said...

For such a pleasantly smart-mouthed comment I am reducing your sentence to a week of straight commenting with NO BREAKS!

Aren't you glad I am sick today? This is fun. Are you are almost as funny as my disjointed twin (would a separated conjoined twin be considered disjointed now?) Maybe we were triplets. Cook!

betchafeelbetter said...

I am sorry you are sick, but I'm enjoying the comments back & forth. And the disjointed twin/triplet thing could explain a lot. Really, a lot.

We are having a new furnace/AC installed right now, and I am sure the workers are wondering why I am in here laughing to myself. Well, what else can you do when you are as cook as us.

lioness said...

Who would have thought we can be funny in the day time. I am going off of little sleep, so that's my only excuse.
And I thought watching my dog sleep in crazy positions with one of my boots was funny.
It hurts sick tummies to laugh to much, so stop it!

lioness said...

Sadly I am realizing that people who are sick but can still sit at their computers might possibly be able to fold laundry.
I may try it.

betchafeelbetter said...

You know you can fold laundry and read the blog at the same time. I've done it many times. Of course, that could explain why it takes me hours to fold each batch of laundry...

jillikie said...

MA I have always loved your insight to the whole story. One of the reasons I can't wait for BD is to see close you come. You seem to be able to express and feel and see all the struggles, positives, depths of these characters. I have always loved your theory that Edward and Bella will be for a greater purpose. Their characters and souls are good- and whatever their fate- they will make their mark in the Vampire world. Welcome Amy!

lioness said...

BFB I can top that. Try to iron clothes while reading a Twilight book. Really it is just a pathetic excuse to read Twilight becuase you can't really iron that way. Shhh, don't tell my husband please.

Jill, thank you so much for your kind words. I am so happy you have been able to grasp what knocked me off my feet in these books. And to think you started out with a stubborn little chip on your shoulder.

Trish said...

Jill I wonder if you'll ever live down the stubborn little chip you had on your shoulder at the beginning...

This has given me some great laughs after a long stressful day. Thank you girls. So does this mean we only have 1/3's of a brain now? Great.

BTY, BFB, she can also read and drive at the same time, really, try and beat that one!

betchafeelbetter said...

No, I don't think I will...
I would like to live until BD comes out. And I have enough trouble driving as it is on some days. I used to think it was just because I was spacey(blonde), but now I know it is just that 1/3 of a brain thing.

lioness said...

I must say, what a magnificient original brain it must have been!

And yeah, the driving while reading Twilight is not such a good thing. It started out as a stop-light only thing. Then just in comfortable areas like my neighborhood. But when I went onto a curb, however slightly, I put a stop to it all together.
I am pretty sure is was the 1/2 brained triplet that gave me the idea to take a book with you every where just in case you need it.
And I must shamefully admit, it wasn't even my first time through the books. Or my second.

Trish said...

BFB I didn't realize you gave her an idea like that, be careful with stuff like that in the future...
Any amount of times reading Twilight is hard to put down!! I have several instances to back this up too.

Jenn said...

I'm baaaack!
Sorry for my absence, but I have been reading to keep informed...
I'm not sure when the best time for Bella to become a vampire should happen but I do know it must. I've thought about it over and over in my mind and there are many different scenarios in which I find it could be a perfect time to happen. I do believe that we havent seen the last of the Volturi and that they may have something to do with the timing of her change. This will be fun to delve into as a group....

lioness said...

Oh you are really funny missy RWV. Don't try to place the blame on the wrong triplet! (really you had me laughing for a while there last night.)

Jenn, where have you been. Did you injure your funny bone?
It is of course more important to have your serious theories, really! But we had some important questions about Trisha's origin we needed you to clear up and not a word from you about that. Not sure which post they start on.
Truly I have missed your comments. Started to wonder if that other site had body-snatched you.

betchafeelbetter said...

You know, Dallin H. Oaks has been known to read at stop lights. So you are/were in good company there TM. I just tend to forget that other things are going on when I am reading.

Me at a stop light would go something like this.

Book/Edward: "Bella Swan, I promise..."

My brain: "Why do people keep honking? Have some patience people, come on."

Book/Edward: "...to love you..."

My brain: "Aaagggh. They're still honking. What is going... Oh. Oops. The light just turned from yellow to red. Oh well, guess I'll just have to read some more."

And the cycle would start again.

Trish said...

Hey, she's the one with all the talk about reading and driving, and backing it by an apostle too.

Just kiddin, that is a really funny thing to picture BFB. It would be in a wonderful place in the books like that when rude people start honking.

Jenn said...

Oh,no,no,no,no,no! (I've been watching Land Before Time too much)
I would never be snatched by that OTHER group. They have fleas.

Well I guess I declared I voted for Bella to become Vampire in '08 on two separate posts-I must be on some good drugs huh.
And BFB, guess I'll be meeting you at IFA bright and early for our flannels of corporal punishment? Yeah I saw that missy.....

Trish said...

Yeah, actually BFB I don't think I saw a week of straight commenting with no breaks. So are you 2 going to get twinner ones or just coordinating ones? Can't wait to see which ones you picked at the meeting on Friday.

Jenn said...

yeah wouldnt YOU like to know??

betchafeelbetter said...

Admit it, you want one too. That's the real issue.

lioness said...

You can't coordinate plaid, people.

Hey Duckie sorry I missed all the fun the other night.

Yes I am going to start tracking both of your punishments tomorrow. 7 Days straight commenting, even if its only a day (boring but I've had those days too).
Is it going to be Reams or IFA? Let us know who has the better price.
The girl-gang in plaid flannel. Somehow we have really strayed.

lioness said...

So back to serious theories here.
I mentioned on a Daily Dazzled post the song "Chasing Cars." Every word of it fits Twilight for me. Particularly Bella and Edwards feelings in the last meadow scene in Eclipse. There is one line that is a little odd however.

"Let's take time,
Chasing cars,
around our head."

So can I relate that one to their relationhsip? You bet I can.
One of the reasons I want Bella to become a vampire so much is so that she and Edward can be more equal. So they can have more freedom (and not in THAT way, although that will be great too.) But Edward has to be so careful with Bella, and she is truly in danger all the time in his world, even without threatening vampires.

I think something readers find so appealing about Jacob is his light-heartedness. The ease and fun he and Bella can have together. Well Bella and Edward haven't had much time to enjoy those moments. Sadly we miss their first summer together, "the happiest summer anyone anywhere had ever had" where they probably had some light-heartened times. But the rest of it is drama. From Edward fighting with himself about their relationship to fighting off vampires bent on killing Bella. This is serious stuff. But make Bella equal, neutralize most of the other dangers and finally they can take a little time to do nothing more than chase cars around in their head if they want too. What a relief that will be.

In fact, here is my favorite, although a bit pollyanna-ish theory.
So not only does Bella become equal and we finally get rid the angst Edward constantly feels trying to decide if he can let her become like him, but when she changes and finds out her aversion to blood is enhanced, and she is the first vampire without a desire for human blood, well, what will he have to regret? He has his true love, the only thing that can complete him and bring him eternal joy and love and without the guilt of knowing he made her a "monster" too.
Do I think it will happen like this? Probably not. But I want it too. I want some relief from all this turmoil. Because face it, living as a vampire is full of turmoil, with or without your companion.

Here's to a truly happy ending. Let Bella and Edward have some fun.

Jenn said...

Ditto.

WOW, TM you took the words right out of my head. I unconditionally, irrevocably agree with you......

lioness said...

I am very honored to know that my words could represent your thoughts Cullenn. Really. Thanks.

lioness said...

Okay Jenn, I have more to back up my theory.
So we (a group of TW fanatics) were discussing my theory the other day, and it was pointed out that there has to be a reason SM brings out the whole "aversion to blood" thing in Twilight. But it happens again in Eclipse. When Jacob cuts his hand in her kitchen. Bella talks again about the smell, about it pulling her under, about fighting with all her might against the wooziness. So as a good author, she is bringing it all up again. A refresher. It has to be.
I am afraid my desire for this theory to be correct is going to out-weigh my ability to see objectively. But it is such a great thought, Bella, with all the perks of vampires but not one.
Do you think SM would do it?
I mean she has said how bad vampires are and how she doesn't want people liking vampires only the Cullens. Maybe morally/Twilight style, she can't let another good person become a vampire. Since there is so much discussion on the soul stuff from Edward, what better way to prove they have a soul, then for Bella to be eternal without the evil desires of the vamps.
Don't you think it has merit Jenn? I want to consider this without just wanting it to be true. Anyone else?

Jenn said...

TM, that is a beautiful theory. I guess we can only hope that Steph has those same thoughts in mind! Thats right, she did repeat little blood resisting episodes, thats got to be what happens. Thats the only thing that could make sense I think. We're all gonna have to be open to whatever she makes it become, hopefully it will be the one we think :)

Ruth said...

Yes, I like this theory. And I was thinking. Didn't she say that a person's traits get increased or more intense once they become a vampire. So for example, Rosalie was already the most beautiful human so when she became a vampire it just made sense that she would become the most beautiful one. (sorry if this has already been pointed out, it's been awhile since I've read these previous comments) Anyway, so Bella's aversion to blood might get stronger too.

betchafeelbetter said...

Sounds good to me! It happens in NM moon too, when Bella crashes her motorcycle the first time - she has to smell the moss to keep from getting sick.

alicewannabe said...

I have to agree with that theory, or at least I know that the blood will have something to do with Bella's change. It is something so emphasized, and brought up as if to remind us. I don't want to play devil's advocate, and I can already see the posts coming crashing down on me, but what if her aversion to blood were to become a craving, or rather she is ultra hungry for blood.....

Now, don't go all crazy on me. Put away the Blog Police badge and just think about it. Aren't we brainstorming, meaning we can throw out all sorts of ideas and discuss them. I don't think it is likely, but you never know when the reverse is going to happen.

I still have to think that there is more to the Edward-not-being-able-to-read-Bella's- mind thing. I am sure that is going to create more of a connection between them.

lioness said...

Silly AWB you have broken no blog laws here. You will be gettting a citation shorty for breaking the "how much you can like Jacob" rules but that is on a different post.

What would you think if I told you I have thought of your little theory. It just didn't seem to fit to me. Since traits are enhanced, that would sort of be an opposite. But I'm not saying it couldn't happen.

I can't wait to see how Bella's unreadable mind gets developed. Remember she was immune to Jane's power over her mind as well. I think it will be really great. And yes, Bella being the only one who Edward can't read, well that is going to play a beautiful role in their future.
And you just wait missy, B and E are going to finally get to have some fun when all this Vampire stuff is put behind them. Way more fun than Bella and Jacob EVER had. Kay?

Dazzled said...

I am sooo very curious to find out what will happen with Bella's ability to keep Edward (& other vampires - like Aro & Jane) out of her head. She can't keep ALL vampires from affecting her though... Jasper is able to affect her mood and Alice is able to visualize her future (unlike the werewolf's futures). It is all so intriguing!!

Dazzled said...

Oh, and I really, really hope Edward & Bella can finally spend some carefree fun together too!!

betchafeelbetter said...

I like the blood-revulsion theory. I do think Bella's closed mind is important - not just with Edward.

I think that what some of the Jacob & Bella fans like about their relationship is that Bella is freedom they see because neither person has to constrain their actions constantly. I think that Bella & Edward will get more of this once she is not so "breakable."
