I'm going to keep this post going for another week rather than starting a new one.
I went to some very sunny places this weekend, and on the way there my husband announced to our car that he was glad this was a Twilight Free Zone. I did not bring my black and red "triple combination" only my brown leather one on this trip. Well I just laughed, ha, ha, tossed my hair or something for emphasis, and pointed out that he was mistaken. I tried to do a quick calculation of how many fleeting TW thoughts had run through my mind in the 12 hours we had been traveling, but numbers don't matter. 2nd nature, you know?
I had a few extra Twilighty moments though and I'll share a few in the comments.
Please add any you have. They always bring a smile.

My first one is short. I was reading another book. It's true. Don't worry it there is nothing to compare with TW. That could go unsaid.
Anyway, the book is called "Uglies". Basically everyone in the book is turned super-model gorgeous. Well thats all science fiction mumbo jumbo, but of course it made me think of who really are breathtakingly/super-model gorgeous. The Cullens of course. So I caught myself looking at everyone I passed hiking around the grand canyon to see if anyone even came close to Cullen gorgeous. And no one did. I saw one or two who had a shot, but not really. I guess I couldn't really expect a Vampire to be at the Grand Canyon in sunny weather anyway, right?
Don't worry I spent more time looking at how breath-takingly gorgeous the reality of the Canyon was. With an occasional fleeting thought as to what the circustances would have to be for Bella and Edward to see it too.
Oh and I really liked the book too.
(yes that was SHORT!)
One of my other friends also said that she really liked reading "Uglies" and all the other books in that series. I'll have to check it out.
Well, my Twilight moments from our traveling were nothing spectacular, but I will share anyways.
First, we saw exactly 8 Volvos during the six hours of driving. I should tell you though that the first 7 were very large and hauling trailers behind them. I didn't know Volvo made semi trucks. Now I know, and I will look at them a little differently from now on.
Second Twilight moment came on the way home when we were driving by some random little canyon somewhere between here and Vernal. DH sees a sign with the name of the canyon and says brightly, "Look. Three Forks." I looked at him smiling proudly for one moment before I said, "Yes. But there are no vampires in this one." Silly men. But we love them anyways.
Your DH certainly does make a good effort. Where did you go?
I also saw an 18 wheeled Volvo on my trip and thought
"lucky driver, what quality". I'll bet they are the fastest big- rigs around.
We went to Vernal. I just thought the 18 wheelers were funny because who would have ever thought we'd associate those with Twilight?
Thanks for the great Twilight cool-down song in spinning today. I was debating whether to yell "Yay, Edward!" If Marti had been there I might have done it, but I was too much of a chicken on my own.
I did not proof this novel so please forgive my typos. I am a typo champion, so compliments only (hear that hoodie sisters from the west side!)
BFB, what don't we associate with Twilight?
It will be an interesting day when I stop listening to every song to see what part of Twilight it reminds me of.
I'm so happy you enjoyed that little Twilight spinning moment. That song lets me really escape into the music. Lets get creative and create a little Twilight signal we can use in the spin room to indicate we are having a "moment". A hiss perhaps?
Okay my best TW moment from the Grand Canyon. This is the long story so get comfy.
Well you can just view the Canyon from the top but we like to hike and wanted to get down amongst the beauty. You can't even attempt to hike to the bottom and back in one day, but a few hours exploration sounded perfect. And it was. Except that every step we took on the way down was just that, down. Every step. Never straight a head. Always, always downhill. Which means. . . every step back is uphill. Now our boys are good sports but they don't have the oh I could hike all day attitude quite yet. So you can imagine what the hike uphill sounded like (but at least it wasn't really hot.) So to divert the boys from thier discomfort Dave suggested we tell stories. Well I am a lazy story teller. I remembered 1 Native American legend and then went blank. Fairy tales didn't even enter my mind. And then, a burst of inspirtation. What did I know well and could actually enjoy telling about. Hmmmm . . .
"How would you boys like to hear about the Vampires in Twilight. The good vampires". Well Duh! They were all ears (2 out of 3, James was showing off by going ahead).
So I started back with Carlisles story. I told in great detail about him, and then each Cullen in succession. I touched on the Volturi and bad vampires as well. Can I just tell you they were ENTRHALLED!
Of course when people would pass us I would pause, or talk very quietly. And I thought, "what is my problem. I'm not embarrassed to be talking about Twilight". I realized later that it was because I was telling my 10 and 7 year old very descriptive details about vampires and that just might sound strange to strangers ears.
Anyway, the entire time Seth kept clarifying to make sure he had everyones stories clear. I did leave out Esme's suicide attempt. In Edward fashion I just said she fell of a cliff because she was sad. And Peter kept urging me to tell about James, and then Bella. So when I finally finished "Vampires: the Cullen history" I gave a synopsis of Twilight. I made Bella and Edward very sypathetic and had to explain why James was hunting her and then what happened to James when Edward caught up with him. Peter's curiosity had to be quenched. Peter is becoming a fan I can assure you. Even Daves ears pricked up when he heard me mention Victoria being involved in future books. He said that was really tempting him to read them (whatever).
Peter, an alpha male, loved the description of Victoria's demise (very censored I assure you.) Really they just kept wanting details. It was GREAT! And it got us all the way to the top. It took me 30 to 45 minutes to tell the stories.
Then this week Seth said to me out of the blue: "Man mom, I want to be a vampire. They are so cool. Nothing can destroy them." He said more and I wish I had written it down. And then he asked again for clarification on if an arm of a vampire being ripped off would stay ripped off. Now how would you answer a question like that mothers?
I must say it was one of the most satisfying TW moments I have had. But will these moments come back to bite me someday?
That is so awesome MA! What a great idea! My kids have shown interest here and there, especially Bella (Max tries to act not as interested, but he really is). I too am kind of lame at telling or thinking up stories, so what a great idea for the future. I love that these boys just love the gore, it's hilarious. I think I would just say that, no the arm that was ripped off would eventually reconnect with the body and become whole again unless there was further damage done. Then again, you'd have to share how they'd have to be burned after they were completely torn apart or dismembered. So yes, I'd keep it as simple as I could, kids will just keep asking for details.
So what did Dave think about this line of story telling?
So I had some Twilight moments while on my trip to Phoenix last week. Hmm, can anyone guess why?
Firstly, on the drive down we drove through some Indian Reservation just south of Paige, AZ. I just sat and stared at this little community as we drove by. Lots of little, tiny houses (like the Blacks), and little stores and random small buildings. A small school. All I could think about were the Quileutes, and how this must be what La Push looks like. Then I saw a group of about 4 Native American guys, probably late teens or so, standing outside one of the small homes. And the first thoughts that came to mind were, Sam, Jared, Quil, Jacob...Yes, really. Of course I reminded myself that this wasn't even the right Reservation let alone the right state! Funny, I think that might have been one of my first TW moments involving the Quileutes, and it was great.
So then when we arrived in Phoenix later that afternoon I took in as many details of the landscape as I could. I wished I would've had my Twilight with me at that moment, open the to the "questions from Edward" chapter, where Bella so vividly describes everything about Phoenix, and Edward is so enthralled with every word she says. It was pretty cool to see some of the things she described in the book.
Of course, while I drove all around the different suburbs of Phoenix I would look for SM occasionally, or wonder if she'd been in the same store or restaurant I was in. Many times I would look at neighborhoods and try to picture a little dance studio around the corner and Edward driving so quickly to get there in time to save Bella from James. I also of course wondered which of the few hospitals I saw would have been the one Bella recovered in.
Really it was quite a Twilighty vacation, like no other for me. Everyone should try it sometime.
I figured we would be the only ones to worry about this, so I'm putting it here. I was freaking out tonight thinking that someone had hacked the Lexicon. It was forwarding to a new site no matter how I tried to connect to it. Finally I gave in and entered the creepy site. It looks like it is an April Fools joke. Man, it was pretty scary. It's kind of fun and cool though so go and check it out if it is still up. I am assuming it is. There are hints the regular Lexicon will be back "tomorrow" but I am assuming they are ahead of us in time zone so that must mean April 2nd.
I do miss my easiest fix to the latest news though. Sigh.
I checked it out, pretty cool. I've never seen anything like that before. The parts that I skimmed were kind of creepy to read and look at too. I can't imagine how scary that must have been for Bella to go to a place like Volterra and be surrounded by them, eek.
So I always thought that youtube song was pretty creepy (my husband listens to it) - now I know why.
So very small moment today. My husband came home from a meeting he had with an academic advisor. He described her as a small, old, native american lady. He said she reminded him of the Quileutes many times. And that's the 2nd reminder he's had of the Quileutes since finishing the books, I just forgot to post the other one. I swear he loves those werewolves and that whole tribe.
Although he pronounces their tribe name totally wrong, he puts a French twist to it, and refuses to say it any other way. He says they're a French/Native American tribe or something like that (I'm rolling my eyes right now.)
So, just thought I'd note that we're in the 100-teens for the BD release!! It seems like we were just celebrating the 140's. Yay! May is next month you know too...
