"Breaking Dawn" . . . any ideas on the symbolism?
How about the cover, what did that mean?
And the prologue, the significance there?

I think the cover is supposed to be Bella as the queen and Nessie as the pawn behind. I am still not sure about the significance of Breaking Dawn in relation to the book...does it point to the fact that there is a new type of vampire (human/vampire).
BTW, any predictions on if Jacob and Nessie could have children? What kind of kids would they be...wolfmanpires? What? That just occured to me.
Did anyone have to re-read the preface multiple times to understand the meaning? Because I automatically related it to Edward, I didn't make the connection to Nessie.
I don't think this is the end. There are other stories she can tell. She still needs to tell us Jacob & Renesmee's story.

Bella's gift is her shield... I don't know how to play chess, but doesn't the Queen shield???? or use a shield as a weapon? I am sounding stupid here, I am sure, but I am trying. That is what I thought of when I was reading the book.
OR maybe Bella is the queen protecting her child? I LOVED the book, but HATE the name Renesmee... except I DO like the two 'ee's at the end of it!

So, I read the anwser that SM gave to what she felt the meaning of the cover was. Actually the 2 answers, but I especially liked the first one. I never thought of the pawn and the queen being the same person, Bella. I always wondered if she was the white queen, but not sure about the pawn. Interesting that the red pawn is Bella while she's human, always needing to be protected. Now she's a strong vampire, who can take care of herself and even protect and "shield" others. Very cool talent she got. Her second answer had something to do with the end of the book with the Volturi, and it being like a court, everyone making their move, hoping it's the right one. The chess board symbolizing court and precise decisions, and again Bella shielding everyone there who couldn't be shielded from certain attacks. But of course you can read all this for yourself!
The prologue wasn't at all what we expected. We were all wrong, some of us agonized over it, some thought it was nothing at all. Who knew it would have been her talking about the risk of carrying her baby to term? None of us, that's who!
I'm guessing that Jake and the baby (I can't even use her name--that's how much I don't like it) can procreate. But I'm really not interested in ever reading more on that story.
Interesting about the cover. I thought we all guessed that the Queen represented Bella.
