Twilight group read:
This outtake goes with chapter 11. It's called Badminton.
Well these chapters are amazing! Does anyone have anything to say about them besides how does Bella even make it one step with Edward looking like that? (just kidding of course any on- looking DH's. There is much more substance to these books than Edward's build, right girls?)
If anyone possibly doesn't remember the source of this picture, this is what Stephenie had in mind when she described Edward's attire for the hike.

aahhh - yes, I just read this today - and thought...I need to look up that picture again!! I had marked a spot from my reading today - but then I realized that it was in Ch. 14 - so I guess I'm ahead? It will have to wait.
But, the 'Be Safe' note has to be one of the very best parts, ever!!!
Yes you are one person who I will not allow to break the rules. You have to wait. And then later you will have a re-do assignment too. You haven't said a word about these chapters and I guess you could start the 13 and 14 but, sigh, I don't want to miss anything.
No-of course I wouldn't let you miss anything. I just need to go back and collect some of my thoughts, I'm not a good page marker like you. So, I will try and restrain myself from reading on, and then I'll back comment on these chapters.
Good girl. Sorry I can pick on you, its because I love ya!
Well, I'm not this far yet in my reading so I'm not here to comment just yet on that, but picturing Edward in his hiking attire - whew! How DID Bella make it through that 2 hour (or however long) hike! She's got a tougher mind than me girls!
I really can't wait for MS, to know if Alice set his clothes out for him that morning, or if Edward just thought it would be the most comfortable thing to wear...
Do I need to send everyone a little stack of sticky notes. I put them right on the paragraph I want to remember. When I go back my brain does the rest. Its a very simple system.
RWV I would ask you where you are but I don't want you to be sad.
BTW, I like the new music. Did anyone read the new song I found that reminded me of TW? It is Marie Digby 'Say It Again'. Love it. google it if you have a chance.
Sorry kiddo. I had to move your comments to a new post. You may be forced to start one of your own one of these days. I just finished that chapter too (chapter 13 by the way) but first I have to comment on this one. So I will save gushing over your comments for a little later.
I did see your music post. Yeah. I am creating a couple of different playlists. I can't wait to add your song to it. This new music widget is MUCH better. Twilight music is my second favorite escape after the books themselves.
Thanks for sharing. And don't be sad I moved your comments. They needed to be in the perfect place.
That's okay. I acutally saw that the comment had been removed, and I was trying to figure out who posted something that had to be removed. Sorry! I get ahead of myself. I am on chapter 15 and I have places marked that I have to comment on, but if I don't stop now, I will forget what I wanted to say.
Chap. 10 - the first couple pages are maybe my favorite...when she finds his car in her driveway. She puts on his jacket again - remember she had just decided on the previous page that she was 'unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him'. Then to be getting to see him the very next morning, ahhhh!!
After listening to the conversation with Jessica, when they are at lunch - our favorite 'dazzling me' moment...but sad at the same time - they are both trying to make the other know how much they care for one another. I love how frustrated Edward gets trying to still get used to the fact that he can't hear what she is thinking...I do cringe when he tries to tell her that he would hurt himself by leaving to keep from hurting her. Sure sounds like SM is foreshadowing here. But then, I remember hearing that SM didn't know Edward was going to leave until she was actually writing NM - is that right MA?
I love the beginning that they have here of learning more about Edward..and all their little feisty comments to each other!
I love how much Bella's personality comes out in these pages! While she is so dazzled by him, she can still come back with some of the funniest and wittiest comments! It never ceases to make me laugh.
Chap. 11 - of course, the famous 'movie' days in Biology...everyone that reads it can feel the electricity - how does SM do it? And then when he softly touches her face in between classes - I'm surprised she doesn't have another fainting episode
It is sort of sad for Mike - he sure doesn't give up on her though, and is always pretty nice.
I love the next morning, when the questions start for Bella - I personally love the favorite color answer - she doesn't mean to spill her guts, but it just happened.
I love that she says topaz without even thinking. Right there you can tell that she is already gone, that is all she is thinking about. But with someone like Edward, who can blame her.
SM didn't know that Edward would be leaving until she wrote New Moon, but she was editing Twilight when she was writing NM, so she did edit a few Twilight things to fit NM. So it is possible that the forshadowing was added.
I can definitely see why Bella stopped for a minute when Edward took his shirt off, and I understand her feeling like he couldn't possibly be there with her.
I can't believe I haven't commented here. I thought I did. Darn I hate it when life gets me too busy to spend time with Twilight (still a level 5 though). Anyway a couple quick comments.
This is a chapter 13 event but it goes here, with open shirtedness discussion. I hadn't pictured until this time through, that when Bella is right next to him in the grass in the meadow, well, SM never says "he quickly did up his buttons". So when she is tracing his arm, when she leans in, and then of course when she rests her head on his CHEST!!! Holy Crowly.
I can't wait to hear if Alice has plans for that outfit. I never thought of that. But Edward cannot of had any idea what he was doing to poor Bella, not only the sad feelings, like BFB pointed out, but the desire had to be quite um, potent, in those moments. Okay I'll save the rest of my meadow info for chapter 13.
Erin I was thinking about your comment, and wish I could remember what BFB was saying in more detail, about Edward leaving. I definitely think that even though Edward didn't know when he was going to leave, that it was inevitable. Definitely a foreshadowing. It has struck me again how dangerous vampire living is.
All for now. Bye.
Okay yes. I know I said somewhere about the leather combined with Edward scent. YuMMY! Thanks E. And Mike is a good guy. I hope they show that in the movie.
You are so right AWB. Love Bella's personality.
Mike asks, "How was Port Angeles?"
and Bella answers:
"It was . . . " There was no honest way to sum it up."
To me that is the essence of Port Angeles. Thank you Bella.
Again I love what AWB has to say about Bella's personality. Even her thoughts are witty. A favorite. When thinking about the fact that Edward would be listening to Jessica's thoughts she says to herself:
"How very invonvenient his little talent could be -- when it wasn't saving my life."
I love how Jessica says "I don't know how you're brave enough to be alone with him." Ha, even Bella is stunned by the irony of that statement. I am going to be pointing this out alot but rereading cover to cover has brought back the suspense and the thrilling danger of what Edward is. I tend to dwell on lovey dovey stuff in my short scans. It's great to have the entire picture painted so vividly again.
And sorry to be redundant but the two moments E mentioned are absolute stunning favorites of mine.
Their exchange about how much they care about each other. Wow. More on that later. But of course of the entirety of their relationship they both get multiple opportunities to prove that they would hurt themselves to save the other. Sniff.
And then Biology. I could FEEL the sparks ladies. LITERALLY! AAAHHH. So masterfully done.
What more can you say about these amazing chapters.
Okay just this tiny bit more:
Before Edward leaves school early on that famous Friday, and he is about to tell her well first, pause for a NMS (Need Midnight Sun moment). I suppose we can guess fairly well what he was about to say when Rosalie's stare interrupted him saying: "but there's more . . . and it's not so easy to put into words --" NMS so badly. NMS, NMS, and so forth.
Anyway before he leaves, he is agonizing again, up until well, New Moon, I think dear E is agonizing. Rosalie is worried about if his date with Bella ends "badly". His explanation should have frightened Bella. She realized this. But instead she yearned to comfort him. All she could feel was "an ache for his pain."
She was very anxious Saturday morning. And the night before of course. But when she looked at his face when he came to her door to pick her up, "agitation dissolved, calm taking its place." She even breathed a sigh of relief. And yet the meadow is intensely scary for a moment. But that is not what Edward lets control him, lust for the natural, or Bella, the natural fear.
Uh. . . . .
The rest has been said or will be.
