The "real" vampires enter the picture. It's best not to stop reading from this point on.
Now much to say here, except intense, and truly scary.
Anything strike you?

I have a hard time using movie images to accompany these chapters because they look so differently from the "real" thing. But I love pictures on my blog.
You're right. It's so hard to put the book down once you get to this point. I think that's why I had such a hard time being patient for everyone else to catch up.
I have to admit (sadly) that this time through I started to picture James as the one from the movie. I tried to push him from my mind, but I couldn't remember how I had pictured him before.
Oh my goodness, so did I, a little. When he picked up the video camera I did. Not before then though.
Victoria and Laurent are nothing like I pictured them. There costumes are so off for me too. Victoria needs much redder hair, and they need to look more wild. I love the description of the differences betweent the Cullens and the nomads. I do think the movie did a good job with James' look. But the real James I picture as the villian from Batman begins, the one SM picked on her website. Can't remember his name. I'll find him and add his picture.
Oh - I wondered why 'he' was here...honestly he would make a 'terribly frightening' real vampire - so that is interesting that SM had chosen him. But, yes, the three definitely don't have the same look as in my - course it's one of those things that the image is so real and there, but I don't think I could put in down on paper - so weird...
The movie vampires are much more different than the description that Stephanie gives them- clothes appearances, etc. Victoria's hair is so significant- for future parts that I am surprised that they didn't make it so for the movie. Lucky for the movie people- maybe most people will not have read the book as many times as we have and recognize so many descriptive missing details- and surely, most people do not have MaryAnn to keep us current on SM pictures, out takes and remixes. I have no doubt that we are the best informed groupies. We are so lucky to have you MA- and others that help and add to her. Thanks again!
Your welcome.
So yesterday I went running at 4:00 in the afternoon. Crazy? A little. I turned onto 7th east where there is a stretch of very white sidewalk I had to run on (I usually prefer the black top). The heat was suffocating there and all I could think of was Bella running in Pheonix to the ballet studio. My legs were slow at that point as well, and they weren't even being cripled with fear.
SM sure knew how to set up the intensity. I could feel it vividly (if you can feel vividly.)
Okay, so I am behind, i haven't been able to read for about two weeks. I just got to the baseball game and the vampires entered. I am disappointed in their attire in the movie. Not at all what was described. And I still don't connect what I am reading with what I have seen. I enjoy my mental picture of James, Laurent and Victoria.
I also agree with the hair comment. That is really the only obvious, stand out, extreme thing about them that SM describes. Her hair is much too strawberry blonde in the movie. Couldn't they have dyed it?
Now I need to comment on Ch. 19. I cannot believe how much emotion SM crammed into that chapter. AS I am reading it, I cry with what Bella has to do to Charlie. The words she uses are so harsh, and hit exactly where they are supposed to. And I know that was the point of her leaving that way. But SM again does such a spectacular job of making Bella real, and bringing in real emotions that we would probably feel if we had to defend our parents from evil. Where does she get these things!
I also love the comment that Jasper makes at the end of the chapter. If we needed confirmation that Edward truly loves Bella, Jasper just proved it in my mind. I remember reading the first time I was so anxious to find out what happened that I didn't stop. I read all night. But now I am picking up on little phrases like that. I think that bodes well for how BD will turn out. Even from the beginning, Bella was worth it for Edward, worth everything that happens. Even NM.
I remember that this scene with Jasper caught my attention as well! Jasper of all people (as we later see more-NM) telling her that she IS worth it! I love it! Of course we can all feel where Bella is coming from - who wouldn't be just fine with what they all were having to do and sacrifice to protect her!
