Here is a gorgeous picture to get you through. Our next post will be the movie discussion!

Book (maybe chapter?) Discussion

Well, as some of you know, I have been without two of my three most favorite books for the last 2 months. I almost gave in last week and went out and bought more copies. But I refrained! My sister, whom I love and adore (but sadly, I'm afraid, doesn't share my same enthusiam for this work of fiction) took a trip out to visit our other sister in North Carolina. A few days into her trip I frantically commented to Mary Ann that, "Duh, I should have threatened her with her life to take the books with her." But to my surprise (I found out a few days ago), she was somehow inspired to take the books with her on her trip. She called me late one night, leaving a message about some sticky note...some email...I didn't really understand the message. It wasn't until the next day, that I realized what she was talking about - the sticky note that I had stuck in the chapter of New Moon, when Alice comes back! I wanted her to stop and go and read the extras - Edward's phone call. I was freaking out - so I quickly called her and she told me where she was, what she had read. She had about 100 pages to go...I was dying!! Well, that was that, we of course talked about several parts in the book - she really likes Jacob...as most of us did before Eclipse! But mind you, she hadn't gotten to the very end of NM - which as we all know is one of the best parts in the whole series ...so I had to just calmly listen and slightly agree with the things she was saying!
Then today, she got home, called me and told me that she had finished NM - really liked it - and that she had read Eclipse for 4 1/2 of the 5 hour plane ride home!! She was to the graduation party - so sad that she didn't finish, because now she is back into real life. But we got to chat again for a few minutes about some of her favorite parts...she doesn't like Jacob as much now (little does she really know) - and is a little bugged with Bella. She wishes that Edward would just quit being so nice and make her choose already. Well, I had to again, just listen and share some of my thoughts - but she still has awhile to go! I hope she gets to finish in the next week.
One of her favorite aspects of the whole series is how SM writes! She loves all of Bella and Edwards talks - totally honest - never hiding anything. She loves that about their relationship!
Well, I didn't really ask my sister's permission to write a post souly about her experience reading them - Someday, when I'm ready to share this side of my obsession with her, I'm sure she'll understand!!

I hope, Hudson, that if you called her she didn't disappoint you. I am very encouraged by the way she is seeing the light. Not that she will become addicted, but simply that once again, who cannot LOVE these books, at least in the moment they are reading them?

Erin I love what your sister said about Edward and Bella's frankness. They still have a lot of evolving to do, like any relationship, but that is a great observation she made.

Do you know I am almost ready to throw in the towel about "The Host" (I throw a fair number of towels. I am quite the explosive person, as you can see). The more I read little bits of my books the more I appreciate SM's amazing writing style as well. There is such an ease to it but not because it is simple. It is beautiful and full of words we still need a dictionary for (right?). But they come off the page so effortlessly and create such vivid pictures. It is stunning to read. So I am close to pledging that I will read anything SM, even if it doesn't have Bella and, ahhh. . . Edward.

I was thinking the same thing as you MA, that your sister made a great observation about their relationship. They are very honest with each other. There are the few things that I wish Bella would express, like the gooey stuff she wanted to say when she finally accepted his proposal. But it's true, it's so wonderful and they accept everything about each other and know each other SO well. I love how by the end of Eclipse they know each other's reactions and expressions so well.

I am also thinking that I'll read "The Host." Her writing is just so awesome. Yes something we need a dictionary for at times, but it does flow so wonderfully. It'll give us something to fill the time. But hey, now we can say that BD is coming out this year! SM said that some family members told her that they think "The Host" is her best book yet. Ho, ho...let's be realistic here people, I can't imagine going that far, but it's worth a try.

So Erin, did your sister finish Eclipse yet? If so, what was her final reaction? It is so great to share in the joy with a new reader don't you guys think? It's like we're living through them. Ha!

I do wish we had a few new readers, well readers that have at least 2 times under their belt.

I think maybe SM and her family have just had Twilight around so much longer, they are desensitized.

I am with you RWV. I am willing to predict, that there is NO WAY the Host can compare with Twilight. Even is SM is one brillian writer! It can be compelling, romantic, exciting, whatever, but magic doesn't happen that frequently. It will be fun to find out how we are all affected by The Host. Let's plan on discussing it at June's TA meeting shall we?
