Perhaps I am slightly OCD, but our husbands have been asking similar questions and noticing very different things from what we have all noticed while reading. So here they are in their own little section for our reading delight and introspection. I figure that as they continue reading & asking questions, we can post their thoughts here. Perhaps they will pick us some clues that we have overlooked as to what is coming in BD.

So I mentioned the jumping up and down. Well I tried to be all calm and collected when my husband called from the bedroom "want to hear a Twilight Moment I had"My response "sure" (gasp, amazed look on face).
So he starts to tell me how he was reading my open Twilight book yesterday while working on our computer. (I thought so). And he was re-reading Bella and Edward's first meeting (the book was not open to the part. He had to have turned to it). Dave then starts to explain how the first time he read that he thought it was just normal teenage reaction when Edward acted so cold and stuck up. Of course later he understands why Edward acts this way. But when reading this part again yesterday, (and now I interrupt for the jumping up and down part. Up until now I have been listening quietly from the other room, but as soon as I realize what is coming out of his mouth next, I can't resist the urge to run into the bedroom, jump on to the bed and begin bouncing up and down on my knees. Then I start hugging him as he tries to continue. I could tell he thought my reaction was pathetic and adorable at the same time. Of course the enthusiam, bouncing, jumping, etc. is not startling to him. He has been living with me for 16 years now.) So back to Dave. I then let him continue with what I knew he would say. That he was so struck yesterday by the real struggle Edward was going through at that moment he and Bella first meet.

This might actully be the place to ask...Joseph was sure that the arguement or whatever between Billy and Charlie (in TW) was over the fact that Billy was trying to tell Charlie that the Cullens were Vampires?

My husband asked me last night, "So my question is, What is Charlie?" I tried to answer that one as nonchalantly as I do all the others, so as not to give anything away. He is convinced that Charlie KNOWS more or IS more than what we think. (That could be an interesting twist in BD. I DO have a sister-in-law who thinks there is more to Renee than we have seen. Guess we'll see).

Joseph kept me up for nearly an hour trying to figure out what was going to happen in the next books. He guessed a few things right (werewolves - first he thought Billy was one, then he kept deducing the facts and finally figured out that it's Jacob...but I don't think he realizes that he isn't one YET), he was a little off on some things - I tried to keep my mouth shut as much as I could. It was very fun!! .

He, of course, made sure to let everyone know that he wasn't hung up on the books like someone he knew (hee, hee), that he really disliked all the 'high school' mush, but that the intensity and action was soooo awesome!!!

My husband, Chris, last night said that [the high school "mush"] was one of the things he really LIKED about the books; he thought SM did a great job recapturing so much of the teenage experience.

New one: Chris now wants to know if Bella is part vampire "or something" because of her very pale skin and because she can smell blood.
Regarding my comment above; I don't think Bella is part vampire. But I was just reading last night when she was talking with Jacob (just before their motorcycle ride), and she said it was a strange feeling connecting to Jacob on an emotional level, because she never connected with anyone this way. Not anyone human...
I do know that this is foreshadowing that Jacob isn't a normal human, but it got me wondering (after my husband's comment) why it is that Bella only really connects with non-humans. Why does she notice the differences in the Cullens immediately, when other humans so easily dismiss them. Why isn't she uneasy around vampires? Why can she smell blood? Why does her skin always look pale, and why does she seem to attract danger, bad luck, and mythical beings?
Is there something that we don't know about (that maybe Charlie or Renee does know about?)
I have lots to say on the subject, but I am going to hold out for the Bella character discussion coming soon to a TA meeting near you.
I will also have more as my husband reads, I only have basic questions from him so far, nothing really worth sharing. Except he thought he'd be funny and say, "I think she should stick with Mike." Real funny! Anyway, he hasn't gotten much further, but I'm sure he'll have more to say soon enough.
I'll have to comment more later when I have a bit more time to share my thoughts, I've unfortunately been so busy the last few days I haven't been able to be on as much. I'll be back soon enough...
TM, that just makes me more excited for the meeting.
And I was thinking, about what Esmessence's husband thought, that Billy tried to tell Charlie that the Cullens were vampires. The fact is that we only hear about the details of the argument through Jacob - and this is when he doesn't believe in the myths. So it is possible that Billy did try to tell Charlie and that Charlie dismissed it.
Charlie seems to try to ignore the things he doesn't want to accept (like his little girl growing up and falling in love, etc. - he's a lot like my dad), so he could have easily ignored anything Billy said about the subject. It seems likely that Bella got her "set-mindedness" from Charlie.
So, we don't really know how much Charlie has been told. We could have a few surprises concerning the matter in BD. And, Esmessence, I'm sorry your husband got upset at finding his question on the blog. Hope things are better.
Again not wanting to start new topics in the wrong place, but wouldn't it be breaking the treaty if Billy said anything to Charlie about the vampires? I've always assumed part of the frustration Charlie had with Billy was that Billy was probably quite cryptic, resulting in frustration as well as anger.
Yes, you are right; although he does decide to risk breaking the treaty later when Bella is dating Edward, I bet he wouldn't have said anything before that.
I don't remember him thinking about risking to break the treaty (did I word that right?) when Bella starts to date Edward. Hmm, where is that? Just curious.
It is the second time that Billy shows up with Jacob as Edward is dropping Bella off; Edward says, "Now this is crossing the line!" (or something like that). And Bella realizes Billy is there to warn Charlie?
Billy ends up talking to Bella, and is surprised that she knows as much as she does, and she tells him that it is "her business if it is Charlie's business." So, he doesn't talk to Charlie, but if he had it would have been violating the treaty.
Still, as Jacob points out later, if the Cullens know the treaty has been violated they only have one choice, and that choice is to start a war; obviously, the Cullens are not going to start that war if they can avoid it. So really, the Quileutes have the better end of the deal - The Cullens stay off their land AND don't bite anyone, or they do bite someone and they still have to stay off the Quileute land. Really, not much difference to the Quileutes.
RWV, your husband telling you that Bella should stick with Mike got me thinking - NOT that Bella should stick with Mike - but he's a nice guy - really, if Edward & Jacob weren't around, he'd seem pretty great. Amazing what a vampire and a werewolf will do to bring things into perspective.
You know, you're probably right. Mike is a good guy and I think he deserves someone better than Jessica. When reading the first chapter of MS, Edward expresses all the mean things Jessica is thinking about Bella. I really started to dislike her character after reading that part. That is going to be the awesome thing about MS, is we'll learn so much about the other characters through Edward's "talent." He knows a lot more about people, so it's going to be a whole new experience and eye opener about the people in the book I think.
Bella is not easily smitten though, you know turning down 3 guys in one day to the dance. Only Edward could do that to someone like Bella, she is a one of a kind girl.
I had forgotten about Jessica's thoughts in MS. I might just have to go read that again.
Don't you just love it when you forget stuff? I do. I haven't read MS for quite a while myself, months really. The next time I read TW I'm going to read that first chapter along side MS, I think that'll be a cool way to try it.
